Study • New Construction
75,000 SF • 465 students • Grades K–5
Construction Dates: July 2014–January 2016
The existing Angier School was the oldest school building in Newton still in service, but it could not accommodate the school program and had extensive maintenance issues.
During the duration of construction, students were temporarily relocated offsite. The project was awarded LEED-Gold Certification.
The new school features a plaza that is both an outdoor morning gathering space and classroom. The building’s layout on the tight 1.97 acre site is compact and efficient, yet gracious, with beneficial views and solar orientation. The administration area is located at the entry, central to school activities. The cafeteria connects to outdoor play areas, the stage, and music room. Three grades are grouped together on each of the upper floors.
