48,000 SF Addition
Construction Dates: July 2008–November 2009
Responding to Bunker Hill Community College’s need for increased space for its expanding student population, a new addition was needed so the college could expand its offerings and allow for future expansion.
The new Health and Wellness Center doubled the educational component space for the nurse education and health professionals programs while maximizing the limited state funding available. In addition a new athletic center featuring a gymnasium and locker rooms plus a fitness center incorporated sustainable design principles, ultimately being certified LEED Gold.
The increased space allowed BHCC to accomodate several new programs through additional classrooms, offices, and state-of-the-art laboratories. The new gym seats 500 spectators and the 2,000 SF fitness center features weights, treadmills, stationary bicycles, rowing machines, and elliptical stair machines.
