Design Problem The new Hurld-Wyman School needed to combine two similarly sized elementary schools to provide a full range of educational programs while maintaining a neighborhood school feel.
Additional Information During the Preliminary Design Program phase, four possible locations for the new school were evaluated.
Design Solution The new building has a compact layout with three-stories optimizing beneficial views and solar orientation, as well as a clear separation between the core and the academic spaces. The academic wing features project areas outside clusters of classrooms for cubbies and small group instruction spaces. The administration area is optimally located at the point of entry, central to school activities.
