Clarke Middle School

Lexington, MA

The Town of Lexington embarked on a Multiple Schools Project to address overcrowding and antiquated systems at several of its schools. The two Middle Schools required additional educational space as well as updated mechanical systems at the Diamond Middle School. DiNisco Design worked with the Town to renovate and add to both of the Middle Schools to better accommodate approximately 1,840 students.

The Clarke Middle School project included a partial renovation of the existing building and a new two-story addition. The addition created classrooms, science rooms and an ELL room. Space-mining existing space included modifying the locker rooms to provide more efficient locker rooms and allowed for new classrooms within the same footprint. Additional renovations of existing spaces created dedicated exploratory spaces.

Changes to the site improved traffic and pedestrian circulation including separating bus lanes from the parent drop off and pick up area, relocating the parking spaces for improved safety and increasing parking. Additional site work included a new pedestrian bridge replacing an existing culvert and a new raised plaza with a canopy.
